Our Church's children's ministry does something pretty cool. They setup a prayer wall where students can write down their prayers and we as a staff can pray for them. I love what they write: "Dear God, Please help my soccer season to go well this year with no injuries! Jesus name Amen!" "My cat died … Continue reading 24-hour Walgreens and Mic Jagger: Everything Matters to God.

Coffee with N.T. Wright: Brotherhood and Rivalry
This morning I continued readings through N.T. Wright's Simply Christian with the chapter for this morning on the Bible. I loved the way that he opened up this chapter: It's a big book, full of stories with big characters. They have big ideas (not least about themselves) and big mistakes. It's about God and greed … Continue reading Coffee with N.T. Wright: Brotherhood and Rivalry
The Bookends on a Decade
A couple weeks ago I wrapped up another journal. Finishing a journal is an instinctive punctuation at the end of a season of life and an exercise in introspection. As I filled up the remaining pages of my journal I flipped back and forth to previous entries remembering, in many cases, the exact places and … Continue reading The Bookends on a Decade
A great post by Jay Kim!
There was a story in the news last week about two high school girls, Meghan Vogel, a junior at West Liberty High and Arden McMath, a sophomore at Arlington High. Meghan and Arden were both competing in the 3,200-meter race at the Ohio High School Track & Field State Championships. In the end, Arden and Meghan were the final two runners as the field ahead of them had all crossed the finish line. With just 20 meters left, Arden McMath’s legs began to give out. Her knees buckled and she collapsed to the ground. Meghan Vogel could have rushed past her fallen foe, a stranger she’d never met. But instead, this happened:
The Vogel home has been…

“Finishing is Winning”
A couple days ago I finished my first olympic distance triathlon. After months of swimming, biking, running, resting, watching what I eat and trying to lose weight, I was ready... at least I thought. After a last minute check of my bike and all my gear, it was time to leave for Lake San Antonio. … Continue reading “Finishing is Winning”
Twitter, Eye Gouging, and Prius
I've been reading the posts from people I follow on Twitter. Some of them are hilarious, but some of them make my soul wilt. As I was reading Tweets, I had the realization that Twitter for some people has become the place to complain in 140 characters or less. "This isn't going right, UGH!" "I … Continue reading Twitter, Eye Gouging, and Prius
Human Nature and Monopoly
I was reminded yesterday of the depravity of humanity by playing one game of Monopoly. It probably has been well over a decade since the last time I played the game. What started off as a friendly competition between friends quickly devolved into unfair trades agreed upon in the desperation for liquidable assets. While I … Continue reading Human Nature and Monopoly
Storytelling, it’s the glue that connects us
Today I was writing curriculum for my sophomore class discussing the listening and telling of stories. From the painting on the walls of caves to the dining room of our home, storytelling says something about who we are, where we come from, what we value, and how we view the world. In a certain sense, … Continue reading Storytelling, it’s the glue that connects us
This is a really great post by Tim King talking about the Exodus of Christianity in our generation.
